High Self Esteem, Creative Writing
I believe that creativity is closely linked to higher self-esteem and emotional healing bound – at least for some of us. When I started feeling good about myself and trust myself and not carry so much old baggage, I began to be willing to write me and serious enough to order a book . write
The funny thing is when I was in school I loved my English classes, but was always of the teachers in my ability to speak well about what we read, but my very limited ability to criticize writing.
I write poems, short essays and commentaries on life. Now I love all my writing. I see creative writing as another self-empowerment.
Hair Stories
Honey
I was 2 or 3 I lived in an apartment in E. Orange, NJ on a business – a chemist who worked in my mother while my father was away in the army. My father was in the Army in Europe during the Second World War. I lived with my very nervous, insecure, and their mother's roommate, Joan.
I remember our neighbors from the apartment on foot, an old woman named Blanche, and my apartment. Blanche sometimes combed my hair into specific hairstyles. I remember to remember me in two braids on my head. The haircut came with her love honey – honey, because it was sweet and it clung to me when I went home, where lived a nervous, matter-of-fact kind of love.
Dad's shoulders
One of my Favorite things to do than to sit on my father's shoulders as he sat on the couch and fix his hair. I used hair clips and hair pins (remember that?) – Maybe even bows. He can comb my hair and play with him as long as I wanted. My mother was impatient and I would never have even asked them only. She felt is inviting enough.
I felt like I was in a safe cocoon-like bubble floating – just me and him. It was a little girl version of a hot tub with your best friend.
Bobby pin
It's a bit far-fetched to call this a hair story. It's actually a Bobby Pin and my brilliant 4-year Experiment with electricity. (Ah, my mother was fixing her hair so that it actually qualified.)
My mother was sitting in her dressing room table was combing her hair. (Does anyone no longer a dressing table? You seem to imply a slower time when women were not in a hurry, be nice and out the door. They took their time, to sit down and make herself beautiful. And they even took the time to "rock" found on the dressing table.) I see hanging on the floor when I saw a hair clip. I thought: "I wonder if this comes on when I plug it in?" So I tried it. Wow! Ouch! Fire came out and burned my hand. I spent the whole day lying on the bed with my mom helps my hand in ice water, so it would not hurt and blister. It was too cold. She did it with me, to me they still want do more. It bubbles anyway and I've never forgotten what the plugs.
The Permanent
I had very straight hair when I was a child and, being a woman, I wanted to curl. Sometimes I would bug my mother enough that she put him in rags, but the curls came immediately. A few times my mother let me one constant in a beauty salon, because of the tone she gave me was always in a few days, and they were very uncomfortable, too. Not only that but my mother was all thumbs so that it was not as much on the Picture shows it to be. The curlers were crooked and falling out.
I think it was the second Class and we would make our shots, and my mother agreed to Allow me to go get a beauty salon Pleasantdale permanent. I was very much in love in my second Class teacher, Miss Sokely and wanted to look especially great for picture day. I have the image of a place in my stack of images. My Pony (cut from my father with a kitchen towel over my forehead) and just stayed for the rest of my hair straight up toward the ears, where it endured in bushy curls permanent. To top off the image of the female Pulchritude, I was missing some of my front teeth. I think I looked nice enough for Miss Sokely? Although this seemed like a great event at the time, I do not remember. There is something for me to learn here. What happens today will in 50 years I do not remember.
The wig
Oh, my poor too self-conscious 21-year-old self! Were in the early sixties wigs "In" – especially for black women. My father sold clothes and wigs almost exclusively black women from door to door. And he was selling wigs. Many wigs. Sometimes I was forced into working with him, and he made me wear a blonde wig! Can you imagine me in a blonde wig? I could it is not.
But this was my very own dark hair, almost black hair wig. My friend and future first husband has it in his head, I should have, and he bought it for me by my father and gave it to me as a gift. Of course, I had felt like to love it. But it bears was a different story! I hated it! I knew everyone looked at me and thinking how strange I looked. But I gave you my friend? Of course not. I managed to convince him that it was was only for very dressy situations. And then I was asked to be a bridesmaid for my friend. And my friend expects me to wear the wig. I did. I had the worst time I ever had in my life. I was in 100% effort during the wedding. I even brought in a dress after the ceremony, which tried to convince me of it, change, that it was the dress that stressed me out. But it was the wig. I shlepped that wig down on my honeymoon in Europe. I never wore them I shlepped. I do not remember what it finally happened – I like to please him and force me into wearing it. I know it was there only very few Times. I know it was long gone when I finally did it in 1980. He's probably just tired concern about the wig. And the funny thing is, I had long, beautiful, almost black real hair.
The Braid
I was what I call as a "middle-class hippie." I wore long dresses exclusively for 3 years, while my husband went to as a programmer in a suit daily work. I had the requisite long hair and we were at a slightly exotic spiritual Organization, totally freaked out my parents.
I loved wearing my hair in two long pony tail or a long plait. I looked so "in" and exotic. It took 3 years to grow my hair long enough to have a braid that touched my waist. It took a whole day to dry my hair when I washed, NJ humidity. It was a real challenge for the hair to have it so. I had two small children – one a baby who is chubby little hands reach to like my long hair.
One day, when I was doing and the mother-of errands as a mother of two and take a wife, I had it! The damn ponytail kept feeling like a lump of coal in the Middle of my back fixed, while I rushed around and tried a 2 year old and a 6-year-old from killing me from the back seat. I came home that Friday and told my husband I had to cut it. I called around the local beauty salons, but women were the dates for the full force of that book Saturday. Thus left we are the children with my parents and went to Greenwich Village that night, and I found a little known beauty salon open until midnight, that would do my hair. All operators were standing while the man who cut my hair into a pixie cut it! And here I am at 66 thinking of growing a ponytail again!
Hair Dye
And then there's the story of my dying my hair. When I was 30ish, I started to get a bit of a gray stripe on the front of my Hair. I liked it. Never thought about dying is – that give the earth mother, and so on. Until I met Barbara D. I gave her a lot of power, and they thought I was the gray Cover and try a reddish look. Why did I listen to them? I did it because I thought she knew.
Dying my hair is a big pain in the neck. My dark hair is very dark. Roots were not in, as they appear in today. But I think it's dark roots with light hair and I was the other way around anyway. I colored my hair for about 12 years until one day I dyed it and I had a really bad allergic reaction. The light went on! I am the "natural girl." Dying my hair do not go with me. Thank you for your message, God. I let it grow. But as ugly. First thing I did was cut with a hair brush to the roots to cover. And it looked worse. So I went to a beauty salon and asked the owner, the very long natural distinctive gray and dark hair she had when she could some temporary cover while it grew in. They said they could do. And my hair was pink and green! I had cut it very, very short, and survived, until it grew out of all the dye.
Do you notice that a fundamental issue in these little stories? Do you notice written journey into the self-esteem?
