Excerpt: Elizabeth railway station is a railway station on the Gawler railway line which is located in the northern Adelaide suburbs of Elizabeth and Edinburgh. It is located 25.8 km by railway from the Adelaide Railway Station. The station opened in 1960 and had the same facilities like that of Cheltenham, Broadmeadows and Womma, but they were demolished in 1998 and has been redeveloped since, in 1999. Passengers access the station by the two low-level crossings, before the redevelopment, an underground pedestrian subway was provided, but this has since been filled in. e Elizabeth station has a long roof between 40-50 metres in length to protect patrons from the weather. There is a staffed ticket office, open only during the morning and around lunch time on weekdays, but it has no public toilets. There used to be a rail real time information board (it has been out of service for the past 6 months) and an emergency phone on the platform. Elizabeth is one of the busiest stations in Adelaide. As of April 27 2008, all trains bound for Gawler, Gawler Central and the City stop at the station, including peak hour express services. Journals of Expeditions of Discovery Into Central Australia, and Overland V1: From Adelaide to King George’s Sound, in the Years 1 $35.36 Edward John Eyre (1815-1901) was an English land explorer of the Australian continent and a controversial Governor of Jamaica. He gained experience in the new land by boarding with and forming friendships with prominent gentlemen and became a flock owner when he bought 400 lambs a month before his 18th birthday. When South Australia was founded, Eyre brought 1000 sheep and 600 cattle overland from Monaro, New South Wales to Adelaide and sold them for a large profit. He also discovered Lake Eyre. With this money, Eyre set out to explore the interior of South Australia, with two separate expeditions north to the Flinders Ranges and west to beyond Ceduna. He later served as Lieutenant-Governor of New Munster province in New Zealand (from 1848 under Sir George Grey) and later Governor of several Caribbean island colonies. |
